Nephrology

WHAT IS NEPHROLOGY?

Nephrology is the medical profession that diagnoses and treats kidney disease and other renal related illnesses, including kidney cancer and stones. Nephrologists also manage abnormal levels of fluid and electrolytes in the body, as well as acid base disturbances. Dialysis therapy may be required for certain patients with renal disease. All nephrologists must first have internal medicine training in order to obtain nephrology certification.
