A hospitalist is a provider who specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists work closely with your primary care provider and frequently inform him or her of your condition.

When you require hospitalization, your provider or an Emergency Department physician will coordinate your admission with a hospitalist. The hospitalists are on site 24 hours a day and work closely with all hospital staff to coordinate your care.

Elizabeth Borrero, MD is part of our Health First team. She is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Before arriving at Health First, Dr. Borrero was an assistant clinical professor of medicine with Louisiana State University Health Science Center University Clinic & Hospitals in Lafayette, LA. Before that, she worked at an Infectious Disease Private Practice with Bendel Medical Associates in Puerto Rico. Before that, Borrero worked as an independent consultant with Nova Infusion Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Before that she worked as an epidemiologist-infection control officer for Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas, LA. Before that, she worked as an epidemiologist-infection control officer for Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette, LA.

Dr. Borrero completed a fellowship at the Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans, LA. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Lafayette, LA. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from Universidad Central Del Caribe Medical School in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Dr. Borrero earned her Bachelor of Science in biology and Associates degree in chemistry from University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is advanced cardiac life support certified.

Policies

New patients should arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled appointments to complete all paperwork. They should bring their insurance cards, a government-issued photo ID, and lists of their medicines and any prior operations. Co-pays and any outstanding balances are due at the time of each visit. Generally, operations or procedures won't take place on the first visit.
