Vascular Surgery

Dr. Moccia earned his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. After earning his degree, Dr. Moccia worked in the engineering industry for a few years before returning to school to pursue a career in medicine. After completing a year of post baccalaureate study he performed clinical research on Pancreatic Cancer and Sarcoma at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He was published in Annals of Surgery prior to attending medical school.

Dr. Moccia attended medical school at St. George's University School of Medicine and graduated in the top 1% of his class in May of 2000. He then became a resident at Albany Medical College and completed his General Surgery Residency in June 2005. He continued on at Albany Medical College for another two years to complete his Vascular Surgery Fellowship. After completing his fellowship, he and his family moved to Greenville, South Carolina to join a colleague and mentor in a large group practice. After nearly seven years of service in Greenville, he decided to relocate to Florida and continue his career as a Vascular Surgeon in Melbourne.

Dr. Moccia is Board Certified in both General and Vascular Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Greenville Medical Society, Florida Medical Society and the American College of Surgeons.

His interests include advanced minimally invasive treatment of Peripheral Vascular Disease. This includes angioplasty, stent placement, atherectomy and thrombolysis for symptoms of claudication and limb salvage. If a patient requires open surgery, he has performed numerous open surgical bypasses. His interests also include minimally invasive and open surgical treatment of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms. Dr. Moccia has many areas of expertise among which include stroke prevention with carotid endarterectomy, treatment of venous disorders and hemodialysis access surgery.

New patients should arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled appointments to complete all paperwork. They should bring their insurance cards, a government-issued photo ID, and lists of their medicines and any prior operations. Co-pays and any outstanding balances are due at the time of each visit. Generally, operations or procedures won't take place on the first visit.
