A hospitalist is a provider who specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists work closely with your primary care provider and frequently inform him or her of your condition.

When you require hospitalization, your provider or an Emergency Department physician will coordinate your admission with a hospitalist. The hospitalists are on site 24 hours a day and work closely with all hospital staff to coordinate your care.

Jharana Patel, MD is part of our Health First hospitalist team. Dr. Patel completed her internal medicine residency at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens, NY. She earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Pramukhswami Medical College in Karamsad India. Dr. Patel is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the Indian Medical Association. She is licensed to practice medicine in Florida, Michigan, Ohio and North Carolina and speaks fluent Gujarati and Hindi, in addition to English. Dr. Patel holds basic life and advanced cardiac life support certifications.

Before her tenure with Health First, Dr. Patel was a hospitalist at Henry Ford West Bloomfield in Bloomfield, MI and ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Toledo, OH. Dr. Patel also served on the National AIDS Control Organization team, with a focus on treating and preventing AIDS and HIV cases.
