A neurohospitalist is a provider who specializes in providing neurological care for patients while they are in the hospital.

When you require hospitalization for a neurological problem, your provider or an Emergency Department physician will coordinate your admission with a neurohospitalist. The neurohospitalists work closely with hospital staff to coordinate your care.

Dr. Tanushree Roy is board-certified in neurology. She has nearly 20 years of experience as a neurologist treating patients and was a recipient of the Patient Choice Award two years in a row in 2008 and 2009.

Dr. Roy earned her medical degree from Jawaharlal Institute in India and completed her residency, serving as Chief Medical Resident in the Department of Neurology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL.

Dr. Roy joins Health First Medical Group from Neurology Associates of South Florida where she has spent the past 11 years as a practicing solo physician. In her practice, Dr. Roy was committed to treating stroke patients, taking two weeks of stroke calls every month at Memorial Regional Hospital and Westside Regional Medical Center, both in Hollywood, FL. She served as the only Neurology consultant for the Emergency Room at Memorial Regional Hospital and worked closely with the Neuro Interventional Radiologist in diagnosing and treating patients needing Cerebral Aneurysm coiling and Intracranial stent placement. Dr. Roy had an average of 7-12 new inpatient consults per day and is proficient in clinical decision making and diagnosis and treatment of patients with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Myesthenic Crisis, CIDP and managing Plasma Exchange and IVIG administration. She is also proficient in managing patients in the Neuro ICU setting status-post IV tPA and intra-arterial tPA administration. She also had outpatient experience in her practice, serving two locations in South Broward County two weeks per month seeing 8-10 new patient consults per day. She managed and treated patients with Epilepsy, headache, movement disorder, dementia, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular conditions and vascular neurology and provided in-house EEG, ambulatory EEG, Nerve Conduction Study and EMG services.

Dr. Roy is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Medical Association. She served as Director of the Stroke Program and was recognized for helping to obtain JCAHO certification for the Stroke Program at Westside Regional Medical Center. Dr. Roy also spent her spare time mentoring aspiring medical students via in-office externship programs in collaboration with local high schools.

New patients should arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled appointments to complete all paperwork. They should bring their insurance cards, a government-issued photo ID, and lists of their medicines and any prior operations. Co-pays and any outstanding balances are due at the time of each visit. Generally, operations or procedures won't take place on the first visit.
