A hospitalist is a provider who specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists work closely with your primary care provider and frequently inform him or her of your condition.

When you require hospitalization, your provider or an Emergency Department physician will coordinate your admission with a hospitalist. The hospitalists are on site 24 hours a day and work closely with all hospital staff to coordinate your care.

Dimas Valentin, PA is part of our Health First hospitalist team. He completed both his Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and his Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.

Before joining Health First Medical Group, Dimas worked as a Physician Assistant for Stull, Jarvis and Spinola Internal Medicine Associates in Pittsburgh, PA. During his five years there, he assessed, diagnosed and treated acute and chronic medical concerns and wrote orders for diagnostic imaging, laboratory testing of urine and blood, medications and EKGs as appropriate. He also counseled patients and families, independently rounded in the hospital and performed simple, office-based procedures. Dimas also worked as a Physician Assistant, Senior at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sickle Cell Program in Pittsburgh, PA and as a Hospitalist Physician Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

Dimas is nationally certified by NCCPA as a Physician Assistant and is licensed in the State of Florida and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to practice as a PA. He is also nationally certified by NBCOT as an Occupational Therapist and is licensed in the State of Florida and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to practice as an OT.

Dimas was one of the first individuals nationwide to receive a Certificate of Added Qualification in "Hospital Medicine" after testing and meeting other requirements through NCCPA. Fluent in Spanish, Dimas also served as a preceptor for PA students to aide development of clinical skills while in school and provided lectures at the University of Pittsburgh on cardiovascular, renal and pulmonary systems.
