A hospitalist is a provider who specializes in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. Hospitalists work closely with your primary care provider and frequently inform him or her of your condition.

When you require hospitalization, your provider or an Emergency Department physician will coordinate your admission with a hospitalist. The hospitalists are on site 24 hours a day and work closely with all hospital staff to coordinate your care.

Victor Vargas, MD is part of our Health First hospitalist team. He is board certified in family medicine. He received his medical degree from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. His Bachelor of Science was completed at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. His residency was completed with Cabarrus Family Medicine in Concord, NC.

Dr. Vargas has extensive medical experience serving in the military and was selected for promotion to rank of Captain to Major. He served as Staff Physician with the US Air Force, a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy Reserve and Deputy Surgeon for combined special operations in Iraq. Additionally, Dr. Vargas implemented a medical support program for Iraq Army 4th Battalion and served as Deputy Flight Commander and Clinical Disaster Team Chief. Highly decorated, Dr. Vargas has received the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Operation New Dawn Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. Dr. Vargas' experience also includes serving as Medical Office Manager with Neil S. Gold, MD.

Dr. Vargas is a Diplomate with the National Board of Medical Examiners and member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians.

Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Vargas is active in volunteer service giving his time and talent to a medical mission in Panama City, Panama and the Community Free Clinic in Concord, NC.
