Health First Geriatrician Says Mix Up ‘Brain Games’ for Maximum Mental Workout

 ‘Physical activity, socialization, a grain-rich diet’ still top her tips for staying tip-top into old age.

Today, there’s more stimulating games and activities, from phone-based puzzles to augmented-reality video games that get people standing up and moving. And many of these come with built in message boards and audio channels so people can chat as they play. Seniors, especially, stand to benefit.

That’s the medical opinion of Dr. Visalakshi Srinivasan – who goes by Dr. Visa – who is board-certified in Geriatrics and Internal Medicine, and is the medical director of Health First’s Aging Services.

It’s a myth that forgetfulness is normal as people age, she told Vero News. The latest research shows that healthy brains can grow and change throughout adulthood, but a lot depends on genetics and environment.

“Physical activity, socialization, a grain-rich diet – these are all things we can do to keep our brain healthy,” she said.
