Health First Health Plans' Medicare Advantage Members Embrace Digital Tools
April 08, 2021

As technology advances, Health Plan members explore additional options - which provides them the care they need in a way that works best (and safely) for them.

COVID-19 worries or not, Medicare Advantage members still need care - and answers - about their health plan. And as plans themselves evolve, so does the technology that delivers customers what they need, when, and where they need it.

"Health First Health Plans continues to offer new Medicare Advantage options as the process for delivering quality healthcare continues to evolve," said Denitza Hernandez, Director of Health First Health Plans Medicare Sales. "Telehealth and member incentives have made this plan safe and appealing during a time when the public may have concerns about in-person appointments."

Health First Health Plans' Medicare Advantage plans offer everything original Medicare offers, plus additional benefits - such as allowances for dental care, vision and gym memberships. Just like modern technology, the Medicare Advantage health plan continues to evolve to help make users' lives simpler.

Most providers' offices operate digitally with wireless communications and health-monitoring machines that give them the ability to offer telehealth visits, providing patients the option of being able to attend appointments in the comfort of their home.

And these technological alternatives continue to blossom.

When Health First launched access to its providers via Virtual Options in March 2020, only 22 patients opted to receive routine care from the comfort of their home over the course of a week.

Then COVID-19 happened.

Now, more than 1,000 Health First patients use this technology every day. And those who might have initially been unsure about this process are gratefully embracing it.

The Chronic Care Act of 2020 gave Medicare Advantage patients even more options to use non-medical benefits. These include new technology health tools, such as blood pressure and sugar monitors, ketone- and glucose-tracking equipment, and hundreds of thousands of health apps on the market that make this telehealth option even more appealing.

Another Health First Health Plans Medicare Advantage benefit is CafeWell, a personalized wellness and health program where members earn gift card points for completing healthy actions.

In addition, a free Comprehensive Health Assessment for Medicare patients provides an in-depth review for all aspects of their medical history. After talking about medications, and prior and current health issues, all information is sent to the patient's provider for future use. They can even receive a $50 gift card for completing this annually.

New technology will continue to provide advanced healthcare tools, leading to even more Medicare Advantage benefits in the future. As a Medicare Advantage member, use the online Member Portal MyHFHP.org/welcome, to log in to the member portal. Click on "Message Center" at the top to:
