'It made me feel a little bit better,' Mom said, 'knowing that she delivered me and my siblings.'
When Khalasia Haynes of Cocoa first began seeing Health First Obstetrician Vanessa Dance, MD, many years had passed since their first encounter. Both could be forgiven for not recognizing the other. Dr. Dance had seen so many patients in those 20 years, and Haynes had grown several feet and gained her vision.
“During our prenatal visits then, when Khalasia told me who her mom was, I thought, ‘Oh, yes, I know your mom, and I’ve delivered her babies'," Dr. Dance recalled.
“She [Dr. Dance] put it together a little later on," Haynes said. "She was just, like, ‘Hey, did I deliver you?’ I was, like, ‘Yeah, you delivered all three of my mom’s kids’."
“I thought, ‘Oh, gosh, this is the first time that I’m taking care of someone who I delivered who’s now having a baby herself!” Dr. Dance said.
“I felt a lot more comfortable and trusting of Dr. Dance delivering my baby. And I think that’s so important … because, you know, you’re in a vulnerable situation and you just want to be assured that everything is going to go smoothly. I felt that way. Plus, she delivered a lot of my friends, who she also could remember when I told her who they were.”
