BABY ASHER KISSELL WAS scheduled to be delivered November 15 by C-section, but he had other plans. He arrived at Health First's Holmes Regional Medical Center as Hurricane Asher was making its way through Brevard County.

As a historic Hurricane Nicole took shape over Brevard County November 9, a birth scheduled for C-section the following weeks was stirring.

“My contractions started getting stronger and was hoping and wishing we could wait out the storm as long as possible,” said Mother Elissa Kissell.

Baby Asher had other plans and felt like coming earlier than expected.

Father Spencer Kissell shifted into Ultimate Dad mode at 1:30 a.m. and braved Nicole’s heavy winds and constant downpour.

“The drive was a little stressful,” Spencer said.

Hurricane Nicole was the first hurricane to make landfall in Florida in the month of November in more than four decades.
