Health First NewFit Patients Take Part in Their First Ever 5k
New Fit Team did Boot Camp to Prepare
ROCKLEDGE, FL(May 17, 2013) – This past weekend, sixteen people focused on losing weight and getting healthier did something some of them thought would never be possible during their lifetime—they completed their first-ever 5K. With the help of Viera Pro Health & Fitness trainers, the group participated in a New Fit boot camp to prepare for the 5K. During the eight weeks of training leading up to the 5K, they lost a collective total of 64 pounds and 21 inches. All 16 people who ran in the race finished it. Health First New Fit Medical Director Dr. Nathan Allison and Health First New Fit Dr. Kenneth Tieu also participated in the event. Running a race was a bucket list item for many New Fit patients who took part in the 5K.
The 5K was part of the Health First Health Plans race series and was coordinated through the Running Zone. The Health First New Fit Program is a weight-loss program that helps save and change people’s lives daily. The program offers two support meetings a month.
Dr. Nathan Allison has led the Health First New Fit program in meeting the criteria for the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Bariatric Surgery Center Network (BSCN) Accreditation. At this time, New Fit is a provisionally approved level one center. New Fit patients have lost more than 700 pounds collectively.
