To meet the needs of the Central Brevard community, in 2011, we opened the doors to Health First's Viera Hospital. And from its announcement through today, we are often asked by the community, "When is Health First going to offer Labor & Delivery Services at Viera Hospital?"
With the growing number of new births in the Viera and Central Brevard region and with the relocation of Cape Canaveral Hospital, Health First is pleased to announce we are transforming our obstetrical services for our community. We are planning to relocate our Labor & Delivery services at Cape Canaveral Hospital to Viera Hospital in the next two years. We will continue to offer Health First Medical Group obstetrical services throughout the region, helping to ensure our community can easily access this care. We will be providing these OB/GYN services at our Health First Medical Group locations in Merritt Island, Viera, Palm Bay and Melbourne (Gateway).
This transformation will make it easier for more Brevard County residents to have convenient access to high-quality obstetrical care. The hospital Labor & Delivery relocation will occur within the next two years as we renovate Viera Hospital in a $9.5 million project. While we are still finalizing the design, we can announce our plan - to have two Operating Rooms, nursery beds and 14 private rooms for labor, delivery and post-delivery. Patients will remain in the same room throughout their stay, providing a private space for the family.
We will continue to have obstetrical services (Labor & Delivery) at Cape Canaveral Hospital until these services are moved to Viera Hospital. Once Labor & Delivery opens at Viera, we will no longer deliver babies at Cape Canaveral Hospital. This relocation will not have an impact on services at Health First's Holmes Regional Medical Center, where we remain committed to providing NICU services.
More details on this project are to come, as we continue our mission of serving the wellness needs of our community.
