For many seniors trying to balance their budgets, managing drug costs presents a challenge.
Health First Health Plans recognizes that - and, in an effort to provide the best drug plan possible for their Medicare Advantage members - offers 40 commonly used prescriptions at no cost to the customer.
"We know many of our seniors are on a fixed income," Ron McGrier, Director of Pharmaceutical Services at Health First Health Plans. "Getting their needed medication shouldn't give them pause - access to these prescriptions should be a given. That's why we're offering many commonly used drugs for common health conditions at no cost to our members."
Medicare Advantage members have the perk of being offered a variety of Tier 6 drugs used to control high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. These prescriptions are generic, so they use the same active ingredients as brand-name prescriptions and go through rigorous approval by the Food and Drug Administration. These medicines are proven to work the same way as their brand-name counterparts, mirroring the risks and benefits of them.
"We want to help our health plan members make the most out of their drug plan," McGrier said. "It's important to us that we deliver our members the tools needed to be well and offer them the best prescription drug plan possible."
A sampling of some of the commonly used drugs available to these members at a $0 copay include:
- Cholesterol medicines atorvastatin, rosuvastatin and pravastatin
- Oral diabetes drugs acarbose, metformin and repaglinide
- Blood pressure medications benazepril, lisinopril and valsartan
The above is not a complete list. More information on what drugs are available at no cost to Medicare Advantage members can be found at myhfhp.org.
