Lung Cancer Screening and Treatment.

Detecting lung cancer in its earliest stages gives you the best chance for successful treatment.

Lung cancer screening.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends annual lung cancer screening if you are:

  • A current smoker or have quit smoking within the last 15 years
  • Have a history of heavy smoking and are between the ages of 50 and 77

To schedule an appointment, call 321.434.3455.

If you have lung cancer symptoms, you do not qualify for a screening and should consult your primary care provider as soon as possible for guidance.

Lung cancer symptoms.

Many people don’t notice lung cancer symptoms until the disease is in a more advanced stage. Those symptoms include:

  • Persistent cough that gets worse over time
  • Coughing up blood
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Wheezing
  • Fatigue
  • Unexplained weight loss

What is a lung cancer screening?

We screen for lung cancer with a low-dose spiral computed tomography, or LDCT, scan. It’s like a regular CT scan, but with less radiation. And it's proven to get results.

There were 20 percent fewer lung cancer deaths in high-risk patients screened annually with an LDCT scan versus a standard chest X-ray, according to the National Lung Screening Trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.
