Q: When is the right time to ask about Hospice care?
Once a physician gives a patient six months or less time to live, the family is often advised to seek out Hospice care. Many families find that seeking help earlier helps to reduce stress. There really is no exact answer, as every family and patient situation is unique. Q: How does Hospice care begin?
Typically, Hospice care starts as soon as a physician makes a referral or order and Hospice will contact the family. Usually, Hospice care can begin within a day or two of the referral. However, in urgent situations, Hospice services may begin sooner.

Q: How do I pay for Hospice care?
Hospice services are covered by Medicaid, Medicare, most private insurance plans, and other managed care plans. Hospice of Health First is a not-for-profit organization and will never turn anyone away for inability to pay.

Q: What does the Medicare Hospice Benefit cover?
The Medicare Hospice Benefit covers care, medication, equipment, respite stays, and physician visits relating to the Hospice diagnosis.

Q: Is Hospice care available after hours?
Hospice of Health First is available 24 hours a day/seven days a week. Patients and families can have peace of mind knowing that when they call us at 321.434.1744, a knowledgeable and friendly Hospice of Health First associate will always answer the phone.

Q: Does choosing Hospice care mean choosing to give up hope?
Hospice care is about quality of life. When hope for a cure is no longer possible, Hospice of Health First provides the patient and their loved ones with the medical care, and emotional and spiritual comfort, they need.

Q: Is Hospice care only for cancer patients?
Hospice care is for any patient who has a terminal illness with a prognosis of six months or less to live, including but not limited to: cancer, Alzheimer's Disease, cardiac disease, ALS, stroke, and liver disease.

Q: Is Hospice care only for the elderly?
Hospice care can be for any patient of any age in the final stages of life, including children and adults of all age groups.

Q: Is Hospice care just for the patient?
Meeting the needs of the patient and family is a top priority. The family unit is at the center of all decision-making. Hospice recognizes that it may take many caregivers to meet the unique needs of each patient.

Q: Can Hospice care only be provided in the patient's home?
Hospice care can be provided anywhere the patient lives: in a private home, a nursing care facility, an assisted living facility, in a Hospice House, or in the hospital.

Q: Can you keep your own doctor when you enter Hospice care?
