Kybella® offers a permanent, nonsurgical way to destroy fat, most often in the chin area, and to tighten skin at the treatment area through a series of injections. Kybella® uses naturally occurring deoxycholic acid, found in the gastrointestinal track, to metabolize fat. When the fat cells are destroyed, the process of making more collagen starts, leaving patients with younger-looking skin and a refreshed appearance. The results of Kybella® become more prominent as healing occurs.

What happens during Kybella® procedures?

Prior to injections, Dr. Collis will mark injection sites with a marker and may use a numbing agent or ice to prevent discomfort. Most Kybella® procedures include 20 to 30 injections, but some may have as many as 50. The acid that is injected then gradually kills the fat cells that are then metabolized by the body in the weeks that follow.

Most people require more than one Kybella® treatment to see optimal results. Studies have found that most patients see visible results after two to four Kybella® treatments. Since the acid works over time, the results are lasting and should remain in place as fat can no longer be stored in those cells.

What happens during Kybella® recovery?

People who receive Kybella® treatments can expect some bruising and swelling. All swelling, bruising and redness should disappear within two weeks. As with any procedure, refraining from strenuous activity for two weeks is recommended.
