Volunteers - Health First's Cape Canaveral Hospital
Hospital Background Information
Part of the Health First Integrated Delivery Network (IDN). Cape Canaveral is a non-profit hospital that reinvests any profits into programs and services for the community.
Located just off SR 520 on the Banana River in Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral Hospital features 150 beds and 240 highly skilled Medical Staff members.
The 50 bed hospital opened in 1962, and although Cape Canaveral Hospital has physically outgrown its humble log cabin beginning; it will never outgrow its original mission: to meet the individual healthcare needs of its community.
Cape Canaveral Hospital Auxiliary
Canaveral Hospital opened its doors, as scheduled, in July 1962 with one hundred twenty (120) Pink Ladies trained and ready to serve their hospital and community. Today the number of volunteers has grown tremendously and includes active, associate, and honorary members as well as teenage volunteers.
During the 1970's, men started serving along with the Pink Ladies and the name for all the volunteers changed to Auxilians. Additionally, the Candy Stripers changed their name to Teenage Volunteers or T.A.V.'s.
