Hip Replacement Surgery.

A new hip for your next act.

Hip pain doesn’t just go away on it’s own. There are different surgical options to fit your unique needs, whether you’ve had a sudden injury or your joint tissue has degenerated to the point of constant pain.

We do everything we can to preserve your original hip whenever possible through exercise and medication management. But when a hip replacement is necessary, we aim for a minimally invasive approach that gets you up and moving as soon as possible.

Before your surgery, we will make sure you have all the information you need, including a guidebook on what to expect before and after surgery, a plan for physical therapy and continuing care, and in-patient rehabilitation, if needed.

What to expect after your hip replacement.

Our goal is to get you back to your normal life as soon as possible. Most patients are able to drive within two to three weeks after surgery and are back to their normal activities within 10 to 12 weeks.

Your orthopedic hip specialist will use a combination of prescription pain medication, ice and over-the-counter pain relievers in the first few days after your surgery. You will likely use crutches, a walker or some other type of assistive device as you learn to get around on your new hip.

We will be by your side as you go through the rehabilitation and physical therapy you need to get maximum flexibility and movement.

Your recovery doesn't end once you are back to your normal activities. Our orthopedic team will continue to be your wellness partner so you can stay active, whether that’s a nutrition plan, flexibility exercises or post-surgical fitness tips.

Success story: Donald

Anterior hip replacement

Donald was enjoying an early retirement by spending his days surfing, biking and traveling. But a nagging pain in his right leg was causing him to limp.

Health First orthopedic specialist, Dr. John Perry diagnosed Donald with arthritis.

"We discussed my treatment options and concluded that anterior hip replacement surgery would be my best choice," Donald said.

Donald was a candidate for anterior hip replacement, a minimally invasive surgery with the shortest recovery time. He was surfing again just five months after surgery.

"The first time I went out, I remember saying to myself, 'Holy cow, it doesn't hurt anymore!'' he said. I am so happy I had the surgery."
