The Observer Program

About the program.

The Observer Program offers participants a behind-the-scenes, hands-off glimpse of careers in healthcare. An observership is open to students over the age of 18 who meet the criteria outlined below. Students under the age of 18 will be invited to an upcoming Hospital Tour of various departments. This voluntary experience does not constitute employment, compensation, medical education, or any training leading to academic credit, licensure, or board certification. The Observer Program will not issue grades or written evaluations. The sponsor will sign off on confirmation of observation hours only.

Application requirements and documents.

To apply, simply complete and submit the online application and a representative will contact you with further instructions withing 3-5 business days. 

You will be asked to provide the following:

  • Government-issued photo ID

     

  • Sign an observer agreement - If you are under the age of 18, the agreement also requires parental signature.

     

If you are seeking to observe for more than 8 hours or more than one day, you will be asked to complete an Associate Wellness check.

  • This includes a QuantiFERON Gold TB test within the last 12 months and a flu vaccine during the months of October-March.
  • These may be provided to the students through Health First or supplied by the student’s provider of choice.

Students must apply during the Application Window and submit all necessary documents by the Clearance Deadline. 

The observation experience will be scheduled during the Observation Window. Students should plan for any academic breaks to better fit their schedules.
