Colonoscopy:
A therapeutic colonoscopy allows your doctor to perform minimally invasive procedures using an endoscope (a long flexible tube with a light and camera at the end). A therapeutic colonoscopy treats ailments such as bleeding, polyps or strictures (narrowing or partial blockage of the colon).
Esophagogastrodenoscopy (EGD):
An EGD is an outpatient procedure used to diagnose and evaluate many digestive disorders. This procedure allows your doctor to view the esophagus, stomach and duodenum (part of your small intestine) using an endoscope (a long flexible tube with a light and camera on the end).
Sigmoidoscopies:
This procedure allows your doctor to evaluate only the lower part of the large intestine (colon), called the sigmoid colon, using a sigmoidoscope (a long flexible tube with a light and camera on the end). This procedure is used to check for ulcers, abnormal cells, polyps and cancer.
